Selmer Mark VI Alto Saxophone, Near Mint, 97% Original Lacquer
Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone, s/n 235,xxx. Here's a late Mark VI alto which is in beautiful physical and mechanical condition. There are very few scratches and blemishes on this sax, and the condition of the lacquer is excellent.
It's quite rare to find a Mark VI in this condition of any vintage. It's such a treat to come across Mark VI's that are this pristine, because there is such a different feel and sound to them. Despite this horn's age, it still feels like a new sax, and plays with such control and precision, but with that amazing projection and presence that is in a class of its own.
The tone is magnificent -- full and dark. It tonal color reminds me more of an early 5-digit Mark VI, but just a bit more tightly wound. The scale is very even up and down the horn. There's some nice resistance here, which gives you the ability to push a bit harder without any crack in the sound. It has a very nice, complex sound in all dynamic registers.
This sax is currently being overhauled, so there will be a delay in shipping this sax out. The sax will receive a top of the line Eric Beach overhaul with Reso-Tech resonators. As good as it plays currently, I'm very excited for how this one will play when it's back from my repairman! Please feel free to contact me for an estimate when this horn will ship. As of now, I'd estimate it will be ready mid-end September 2016.
