Selmer Reference 54 Alto Saxophone, Excellent Condition, Just Serviced
Selmer Reference 54 alto saxophone, s/n 756247. This sax is in excellent condition with no dents and no resolders. The neck has never been bent down and the bell flare is perfect. My tech just serviced the horn, so the pads are sealing well and the horn plays effortlessly in all registers. The pads are in excellent condition and have a lot of life left.
Selmer introduced the Reference 54 as their modern take on the 1954 Mark VI, keeping the essence of that sound but with modern keywork and intonation. The result is a horn that has a lot of warmth and projection, that plays effortlessly. The Mark VI is famous as a jazz horn, but it's worth remembering that Marcel Mule helped Selmer design it, so it has roots in classical playing as well. That carries over to the Reference 54. It plays both jazz and classical styles at a high level. If you're a classical player who wants a horn that projects better than a Series II or Series III but still has that Selmer core to the sound, this is the model to look at.
The sax comes in its original case, which is in excellent condition. The case is made by Bam, one of the best case makers in the business.
