The sax was just serviced prior to sale, so the pads are sealing perfectly, and the horn speaks with ease from top to bottom. The pads are in excellent condition.
One thing I’ve always liked about the Series II is that it’s built without a removable neck. To me, that gives the horn a directness and immediacy of sound that the Series III doesn’t quite capture. It responds quickly and has a strong, focused core to the tone.
This model also bridges the gap nicely between the vintage Selmer sopranos and the modern ones. It has the intensity and tonal color of a Mark VI soprano, but with more comfortable ergonomics and the addition of a neck strap ring—both things that make it much easier to live with day to day. For players who want that classic vintage Selmer soprano sound without the quirks of the older horns, the Series II is hard to beat.
