Yanagisawa A-990 Alto Saxophone, Excellent Condition, Just Serviced
Yanagisawa A-990 alto saxophone, s/n 199088. My repairman just serviced this sax, so the pads seal well and I can get around easily in all registers. The pads are in excellent condition with a lot of life left. Cosmetically, this horn is in great condition and only shows moderate wear. The sax comes in its original case.
The A-990 was Yanagisawa’s top professional alto in the 1990s and the model that came right before the A-991. It has a lot of the same qualities people like in the later horns—smooth keywork, even intonation, and a really solid, reliable feel. Compared with earlier Yanagisawas, it feels a little more focused and centered, but still has that warm, flexible tone the brand is known for.
The 990s are fantastic horns. They have that unmistakable Yanagisawa precision and feel, and you can really sense how much care went into building them. The tone is rich and colorful, and the response is quick and even throughout the range. It is one of those horns that feels comfortable the moment you start playing, easy to control, easy to shape your sound, and just plain fun to play.
