Yanagisawa A-992 alto saxophone, s/n 247058. This sax is in mint condition and could essentially pass for a new horn. The lacquer is spotless, there are no scratches that I can find, and the pads are also in like-new condition. The original case is also in excellent condition and looks like it has barely been used.

The A-992 is Yanagisawa’s top of the line professional alto saxophone. This model has the bronze body and neck, which gives the horn a slightly warmer and more complex sound compared to the standard brass 991 model. I think of Yanagisawa as one of the most consistent saxophone makers. The build quality is excellent, the intonation is very reliable, and the keywork feels comfortable and easy to get around on.

This sax plays incredibly well. The response is even from top to bottom, the low notes speak easily, and the horn feels centered and stable throughout the entire range. It has a beautiful sound with a little extra warmth from the bronze body, but still has plenty of clarity and projection.

If you are looking for a professional alto in essentially new condition, this is a great candidate. It gives you the feel and condition of a nearly new top-level Yanagisawa while saving thousands compared to the cost of buying a new horn.
